Web 2.0

Many so called ‘cutting edge’ technology companies today boast of web applications using Web 2.0. Generally, the term Web 2.0 connotes a step forward in web development. However, there is no clear cut demarcation or definition about what Web 2.0 exactly means.

Web 2.0 has a complex and growing technology that includes server-software, content-syndication, messaging- protocols, standards-based browsers with plugins and extensions, and various client-applications. All these differ in functions and approaches but provide all the requirements beyond the expectation such as information- storage, creation, and dissemination capabilities.
 

Some of these characteristics include the following:
 

• Correctly using HTML/XHTML, CSS, and other standards

• Using Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) to provide a responsive application without requiring a full refresh of pages

• Allowing syndication of web site content using RSS

• Adding wikis, blogs, or tags

 
Of course, it is not necessary for all sites to provide all of these features, using correct standards does provide a platform for a good website, and should be used by all developers, regardless of how they want their web site or application categorized.
