- 34 per cent rise in India’s IT and ITeS exports in 2004-05 - to US$ 17.2 billion from US $ 12.8 billion in the previous year.
- 42 per cent year-on-year growth of ITeS-BPO export revenues - to US $ 5.1
billion mark in 2004-05 from US $ 3.6 billion in 2003-04. - 100 countries worldwide import Indian software
- 20 per cent market share for India in the global cross country customized software development market.
- 85 SEI CMM Level 5 companies and 38 SEI CMM Level 4 companies are operating in India.
- Top 25 Indian software companies have attained critical mass, in terms of both
revenue and market capitalization. - A dozen InfoTech companies with strong brand leadership and with a proven track record of system integration and network services have been listed on the New York and London Stock Exchanges.
- One-third of the e-Commerce start-ups in Silicon Valley are by Indians.
- 9.5 per cent growth in Hardware Industry
- 24.8 per cent output growth in the Communications and IT industry - from Rs. 118,290 crore during 2003-04 to Rs. 147,610 crore in 2004-05.
- Multiplier effect on the Indian economy - besides being the country’s biggest
employment generator, the sector has fuelled the growth of several ancillary industries and created a new class of consumers with high disposable incomes. - 4.1 per cent of the national GDP in 2004-05.
- One million professionals employed in IT-related sectors as in March 2005 - 345,000 professionals in the IT software and services export industry; 348,000 in ITES-BPO sector; 30,000 in the domestic software market and 322,000 in user organizations.
- Manpower demand for IT software and hardware sector in 2008 is projected as over 9 million.
- Moving towards self-sufficiency in strategic electronics sector - covering satellite based communication, navigation & surveillance system, radars, navigational aids, under water electronic system, disaster management & internal security system.
