The SEO FAQs

Do I need SEO?
In today’s highly competitive world, it is not merely enough to have a ‘classy’ site. More and more website owners are realizing that despite having a good website, there are no substantial gains in business revenues from their website.

This is mostly because of a Catch-22 situation – people who know what you do not really visit your website; they just call you up or send an e-mail. The main aim of your website should be to attract people who know what they need, but are not sure of the best source. With the usage of the internet growing exponentially, search engines (like google, yahoo and MSN) provide such people an excellent tool to search for resources they need. In order to make your website earn more revenues, it thus makes sense to design a web site that ranks high in these leading search engines.

The most tangible benefit of SEO is that people who visit your website from a search engine already are looking for the services / products you provide, so they are more likely to give you business. In other words, SEO works better than having a newsletter campaign or e-mail blasting.

Search engines follow highly guarded search algorithms; the key to achieve successful optimization lies in trying to decipher the algorithms. The more experienced a SEO company, the more familiar they usually are with how search engines function and what needs to be done to achieve top rankings.

Does SEO really work?
Well, that depends on what you want. If you are talking about getting to be No. 1 in google and or yahoo for all your chosen keywords, that may not be true. However, if you want your site to climb higher in ranking on the search engines, that should be possible.

Is SEO an art or is it a science?

Both. To the extent that you avoid spelling mistakes, syntax errors, use correct grammar and adroitly put in the keywords without sounding contrived, SEO is an art. But then, science takes over. When we mean ‘science’, we basically mean understanding the way algorithms of the search engines work, and designing the site as per the algorithms working.

A SEO company that has approached me has guaranteed 100% results in google. Does Ojaswi Tech do that?
No we don’t. A good SEO company cannot promise 100% results for the simple reason that no one knows the exact logic that goes into a search engine’s algorithm.  Here is what google itself says on the subject:

* Be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that send you email out of the blue.
* No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.

If, there are no guarantees, why should one go for SEO anyway?
A good, experienced SEO company can do many things for your website that goes a long way in increasing your targeted audience. Even before you begin ranking, a good SEO campaign can increase daily and unique visitors by offering rich content, increasing brand recognition and identity. Some other tangible benefits include increased usability, cross browser compatibility and accessibility.

I have about 25 keywords identified for my website. Are they adequate?
As a rule of thumb, your primary keywords should not exceed 3 or 4. Remember, the operative word here is ‘key’. To get good results, you should concentrate on 3 or 4 key services / products first. Once you start getting good results, you can always extend them. Remember, SEO is an expensive process. Most times, it exceeds the cost of the website. Optimization of each additional keyword can cost a bundle, so it is better to start off with something that can give you financial results fast
